Top Searches on Mormons

I feel so bad that I am so behind on Mormon Monday posts. Mainly because I have 10 or 11 questions in my email box sitting there and waiting to be answered. I kept thinking, "I could simply reply to this email, BUT it'd be sooo good to put out there!" So I'm back. And I'm going to do my very best to keep up-to-date. I love sharing the gospel and want everyone out there to know the happiness I experience because of it.

Q: What would you say are the most frequently asked questions about your religion?

I thought I would find that out for myself. Obviously, there are many misconceptions about the LDS religion. I always have to tell myself that there is opposition in all things, even the right and true things. I went to Google and wanted to find what other people were searching for. I giggled a few times and thought, "Hey. I could still answer that." I took three screenshots of a few introduction to questions individuals might ask.

1. Do Mormons drink?
Our body is a precious gift from God. To help keep our bodies and our minds healthy and strong, God gave a law of health to Joseph Smith in 1833. This law is known as the Word of Wisdom. (D&C 89:1-21) God promises great physical and spiritual blessings to those who follow the Word of Wisdom. Today, the scientific community promotes some of the same principles that a loving God gave to Joseph Smith nearly two centuries ago. We are taught not to drink alcohol because it is harmful to our bodies. Read the Word of Wisdom here

2. Do Mormons believe in the trinity?
Mormons most commonly use the term "Godhead" to refer to the Trinity. The first article of faith is, "We believe in God, the Eternal Father, and in His Son, Jesus Christ, and in the Holy Ghost." We believe in God the Father, Jesus Christ, and the Holy Ghost are one in will and purpose, but are not literally the same being or substance. The traditional view about the Trinity is over a thousand years old and time has a way of hallowing ideas, whether or not they are true. I recommend reading this talk about the LDS View of God and how it IS consistent with the Bible, if that's what you're comparing the whole Trinity thing too.

3. Do Mormons believe in hell?
Generally, Latter-day revelation speaks of hell in 2 senses. First, it's the temporary abode in the spirit world for those who were disobedient in mortality. When you think of it this way, hell as en end. The spirits there will be taught the gospel, and sometime following their repentance, they will be able to be resurrected to a degree of glory of which they are worthy. Those won don't repent will remain in hell throughout the millennium Secondly, hell is the permanent location of those who are not redeemed by the atonement of Jesus Christ. In this sense, hell is permanent. Click here to see how hell is used in the scriptures.

4. Do Mormons celebrate Christmas?
ABSOLUTELY! The official name of the Mormon Church is The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. Our beliefs are centered on Christ, his life, and the atonement.

5. Is Mormonism a cult?
Well, a cult is defined as a system of religious veneration and devotion directed toward a particular figure or object. So yes, I suppose we are considered a "cult." If you are talking about the definition of cult that practices strange or sinister things, I'm not exactly sure what you consider 'strange.' We are a group of people who join together to try and be more like Christ. It's actually extremely simple, as it is meant to be.

6. Is Mormonism Christian?
Like I said in #4, our official name is "The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints." Our church is focused around the Savior. You cannot go to church without learning about Christ, and what He did for us. It has always sort of boggled my mind that people are confused over this. I suppose it is because I have grown up in the church and know for a fact that I am a Christian.

7. Is Mormonism true?
I giggle at the fact that some of you are asking Google if Mormonism is true. If you ask me, I would say that I full-heartedly know that Mormonism is true. Every ounce in my body knows that it is true. And if you want to know it is true too, I invite you to pray to God, with a sincere heart, asking if it is true. And He will reveal the truth unto you. I think a lot of individuals don't understand the aspect of faith, and even the definition of faith. You can most definitely click here to read my post about faith. That just might help ya!

8. Is Mormonism a form of Christianity?
Absolutely. Refer to question 6 or something.

I'm definitely giggling at this set of Mormon questions.

9. Why are Mormons so hot?
I have never heard this question before, nor do I know why it is one of the most popular questions asked about Mormons on Google. There are many times when a person is close to the spirit, you can see a light in their eyes. There's something different about them. They're kind and tender-hearted. To some, this could make them more attractive.

10. Why are Mormons so nice?
I know a lot of people tend to think Mormons are judgmental and rude. And you know what? I'm sure there are some rude and judgmental Mormons out there. There are rude and judgmental individuals in any group or religion. Why? Because we're not perfect. On the other hand, we are taught not to judge and to love one another. We support the idea of free agency, our lives are centered around Christ and our families, and we are striving to stay on the path of eternal life. If you're looking for fulfillment, happiness, a closer relationship to God, eternal life, and being an overall happy person, go to Mormon.org, find out more, ask questions, read and pray. You will get your answer.

All in all, I think you should stop asking Google and start asking God. There are so many misconceptions out there about the LDS religion. There is false advertising. There are heartbreaking and incorrect things. And I'm telling you. Even if there weren't incorrect things out there, Google isn't the place to ask if Mormonism is true, God is. I will send you a Book of Mormon, free of charge, if you are interested in learning more about the religion. Read the Book of Mormon. Pray, asking if it is true. And I can tell you, you will feel comforted and at peace.
