Q: I know that Mormons don't drink coffee, but what other rules are there on what not to eat/drink?
A: I've talked a little bit about the Word of Wisdom before, but today, I'm going to talk about the whole thing. In Doctrine and Covenants section 89, the Lord reveals which foods are good for us to eat and which substances aren't good for the human body. He also promised health, protection, knowledge, and wisdom to those who obey the Word of Wisdom.
In the Word of Wisdom, the Lord revealed that the following substances are harmful:
-Alcoholic drinks (D&C 89:5-7)
-Tobacco (D&C 89:8)
-Tobacco (D&C 89:8)
-Tea and Coffee (D&C 89:9.
The Lord also declared which Word of Wisdom foods that are good:
-Fruit and vegetables (D&C 89:10-11)
-The flesh of "beasts and of the fowls of the air," which should be used sparingly. (D&C 89:12-13)
-Grains like wheat, rice, and oats (D&C 89:14-17).
Some people say, "It's been proven that tea is GOOD for you, so why does your religion prohibit it?" Well, back in 1833, some of these things weren't proven yet. And now, they have been. So I believe in the coming years, everything will be made clear and make sense. For now, we must trust in the Lord and listen to what he's saying, with faith.
